How to write a unique  descriptive paragraph

One of the most essential aspects of descriptive writing is to be able to create a picture in your readers’ mind. Descriptive writing is meant to engage readers. If you are able to do this, then your written text would have an impact. Descriptive writing focuses on a single aspect, a person, event, place, or object. Some texts include all these elements.

As a writer, you will have to be able to convey ideas in a meaningful way that the reader can easily visualize. Your writing needs to be structured in a way that helps your topic make sense. If you are describing an event, your ideas have to be written chronologically. If you are writing about a person, you should talk about his physical, psychological, and social traits.

Last time, I showed you how to write a descriptive paragraph about a person. In this post, I will share with you some tips on how to write a descriptive paragraph about a place. Your introductory sentences should set the tone for the rest of the paragraph. When describing a place, you are basically concerned with the location, the geographical characteristics, the weather,  the people….etc. 

Here are some words and adjectives you can use to describe different things:

When describing places, you have to focus on the following things in describing places.

  • Historical monuments,
  • The geographical location (rivers, hills, mountains, seas,

You can use the following adjectives: 

  • Noisy,
  • Crowded,
  • Clean,
  • Smoky,
  • Attractive
  • Alive: Full of life
  • Attractive: Pleasing; charming
  • Beautiful: Having qualities that are pleasing or appealing
  • Calm: Peaceful
  • Charming: Fascinating
  • Fresh: Something newly made and full of vigor

  • Crowded: filled with people

A descriptive paragraph sample:

Last year, my family and I went to Florida. It is a beautiful state. The weather was sunny and amazing. The people, there were very kind, generous and really humorous. Florida is really attractive because it is a tourist destination for many people. It has several historical monuments such as:…………………. In my opinion, this state is so charming because ……….. Although it is expensive and everything costs a lot of money, it is peaceful and lively.
