The use of “Just” with the present perfect

We use JUST with the present perfect tense to indicate an action that has just started (a short time ago).

Just is used like this in a sentence:

  • Subject + have/has + just + verb (past participle)

Examples:

  • I have just closed the door. No one was there.
  • I have just talked to my mom.
  • She has just seen Bob.
  • They have just called us. We have to go.

The use of “already” with the present perfect

We use ALREADY with the present perfect tense to indicate an action has happened very early – or earlier than it may have happened.

Already is used like this in a sentence:

  • Subject + have/has + already + verb (past participle)

Examples:

  • I have already had my lunch.
  • She has already come here.
  • The train has already
  • She has already spent her salary. I’m not sure she can help you.

The use of “yet” with the present perfect

We use YET with present perfect to indicate an action that hasn’t finished or to ask whether something has happened or not. Notice that /yet/ usually comes at the end of the sentence.

Yet is used like this in a sentence:

  • Subject + have/has +not + verb (past participle) +yet
  • Have/has + subject +verb (past participle) + yet?

Examples:

  • Have you started playing the game yet?
  • I haven’t finished yet?
  • Has she completed her work yet?

The use of “still” with the present perfect

We use STILL with present perfect tense to indicate an action that has not finished – particularly an action that is expected to finish earlier.

Still is used like this in a sentence:

Subject + still + have/has + verb (past participle)

Examples:

  • She still hasn’t come. I have been waiting for hours.
  • I still have received anything from her.
